Question:
american express?
my credit score/ FICO score is 625 i wanted to apply for the American express gold card. do you think that my credit may be satisfactory enough to apply for the card? i know that most American express customers have high credit score.
Answers:
1) no,american express only gives cards to people who have a 750 or better credit rating.your score is well below the national average of 690,indicating that you are sub prime. Kat,american express does not have to be paid in full monthly.
2) Why worry? It doesn't cost anything to apply. You get it or you don't.
3) Your scorce is pretty low. Why American Express? They are a charge card, not a credit card. They must be paid off at the end of each month.
4) I've known many that received the Delta Gold "credit" card with scores in the low 600's and also many that were denied with low 600 scores. I know many people that have been approved for "almost" every Amex card offers when having lower scores than the scores one poster claimed a person "must have". But the Delta Gold seems to be a bit easier with scores that are down in the low 600's Much depends on positives (how many and how old) and also the age of any negatives and types of negatives that are reporting. If you have fairly new negatives (within 2 or 3 years) and few positives, then you may get denied. Amex offers "both" charge and regular credit cards. The one poster that claims they only offer charge cards is going on "very" old information. The Delta Gold credit card does have an annual fee that is waived for the first year. IF you apply and IF you are approved and the Delta rewards is not what you want or if you don't want to pay an annual fee, you may be able to convert the card to a no fee card.
5) Why not apply for a fee free American Express? All though with a credit score of 625, I doubt you will quality unless your income is over $30,000 per year.
6) No, try a card for fair credit not a good credit card sorry.
7) your credit score might be to low but there are other good cards with rewards that you could apply and get approved, check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com here you will be able to compare them all side by side on rates, fees and rewards.
8) Well American Express will probably not approve you for their charge OR credit cards yet. Go check out www.whogavemecredit.com. It's a whole database that is user-created and shows what people, with what credit score, was approved for what card, etc.. But I would say get your credit up to at least a 690 before you apply to save yourself the inquiry on your credit report. Also, IF you did apply, you would probably only get their green card, then as time passed, and you created a good history with AMEX, they would invite you to upgrade to the gold.
