Question:

Credit Counseling?

What are good companies to go to for credit counseling? Preferably non-profit... I can't pay my credit cards anymore because my minimum payments are even to high for my income... Can you kind of give me a quick description on how if works? THNKS!

Answers:

1) if in the UK go to CAB they have a person there that will write to each company on your behalf and advise on what you can afford pay back. They will help advise you

2) Credit counseling I would reserve for learning ' how to manage' your credit. Unless you're working with a spending addiction, which would require some form of counseling, stick to a well disciplined regimen. That is a budgeting issue, however I would first make a possible final step to contact the creditors. Contact your creditors to see if there is "Anything" you can do to work it out before it reaches collections. If you have just recently filed your taxes, see if you can budget out enough to bring your balances down to make them manageable for you. If you are not able to reach a happy medium between yourself and the creditor, then they will likely send your account(s) to collections. This is your absolute last opportunity to make arrangements for a pay-off. If you are not able to keep your arrangements with them, on time and regular, then they ' will ' take you to court! At this point, a judgment to your favor or not will be determined. But this only applies if, once you are in court and able to make the immediate demands of the "Creditors" attorney demands. Otherwise, if you get to the point of working with the creditor's attorney, which by the way, " Is not there to be on your side," you'll have to make a monthly payment schedule with he/she. That is 'if' they agree to it. But it is there that you'll have to stick with your payment, because once you default or go back on your word, it turns into a automatic judgment against you once they re-file your case. Good Luck To You

3) If your looking for credit counselling go to www.nfcc.org This is a list of accredited counselling agencies that wont try to scam you. You can even look for places by state.

4) You can go to CREDIT SOLUTIONS.COM they featured in NBC.

5) try http://www.nfcc.org A good Counseling Service will levy a nominal fee of just about $14 each month. If they ask for a heavy fee up front, then they may be more likely to cheat you. Beware of the likely scams. Also remember that using with a credit counseling service can harm your credit report to some extent. But the benefits are more than the drawbacks. Trying to show that you are sincerely trying to pay off your debts is much better than to explain a bankruptcy or a credit report filled with charge-offs. http://debts-to-wealth.com/category/Credit-Counseling.html
