Question:
Grants available for law enforcement academy?
Figured it would be a good idea to ask here as well, since we have several LEOs here.
This May I will be attending the law enforcement academy at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa. What are some grants that would be available to me? Anything specifically set aside for future police officers? Where would be a good place to start with this?
Please note that this academy is done at a community college since most departments here do not do sponsorships.
Answers:
1) I went through a similar academy to that in Missouri. At that time, the only tuition assistance that was available from the government was the G.I. Bill for the former military guys in the class. Several people had student loans, and everyone else just paid their own way. Good Luck!
2) Yes, there are grants available through federal and state. I went to the police academy through a vocational school. I was given a partial state grant and a grant through the VA. Talk to the college guidance office. They can tell you about the various educational grants that are available.
