Question:

I need help on my credit history!?

Ok, so someone I know bought me one month of internet service just to try it out. It is under his credit card, but for some reason, it's my billing and name that's on record. It's still his credit card though. He did not pay for the services (yea I know that's bad of him) and there are letters that are being sent to me from third party collection agencies called the arch group inc. to collect payment. Anyways, whose credit will it affect? Will it affect my credit history or his credit history? It has my name and billing address and tha'ts it but it's HIS credit card. My SSN is not associated with the account or anything since I don't even have my own credit card on file with them. It's just that it's my name and billing. Will it affect my credit history or can it affect me in any way?

Answers:

1) I say call the company and explain to them what happened. And see what it takes to resolve the issue.

2) i think it will affect your credit history. but you'd better call them up and make yourself clear.

3) Obviously, neither of you remembered to cancel the service at the end of the month. It also appears that only the first month was on his credit card and that the collection calls relate to the subsequent months. Did you sign anything or agree to anything, online, by phone, or otherwise? I had a big fight with DirecTV where a corrupt satellite dish company (Consolidated Smart Systems) used their credit card and my name and address to open an account fraudulently and they paid the first six months, but then DirecTV demanded that I pay the remaining months.
