Equifax has posted continual errors on our credit reports?*

Equifax continually reports the same errors on our credit report ..when I wrote and disputed the same negligent errors..they posted a stolen credit card note to one of my credit cards that was open..It forced it to close..Does anyone have a phone number to the main Equifax office..This is a nite mare... Equifax is AWFUL

Answers:

1) Do NOT try to dispute anything by phone - it is a waste of time and does nothing to preserve your rights. All disputes should be submitted in writing via certified mail so you have proof of notification.

2) Is it only Equifax that is reporting this error or are the other two credit agencies also posting the incorrect information? If it is all three, you might have better luck with one of the other agencies. If it is only Equifax, I'd recommend contacting them in writing. You can always get in touch with the Better Business Bureau if your correspondence is repeatedly ignored.

3) In addition to what the poster above stated (about NOT disputing things via phone) send your letter by registered mail with return reciept requested. Then you have proof that the dispute was recieved. Futher, send a letter and ask that same be included in your credit file. You can write a one page statement and request that it goes out everytime your credit is pulled. This will explain your side of the events regarding the stolen credit card. If you have a police report, be sure to send a copy of that to the credit card agency too. I would place a fraud alert on my account to that the thieves dont have more access to ANY more of you information.

4) Many of us have had to take Equifax to Small Claims Court. It's sad when a person has to pay $50 and file a law suit just to get their attention, but we are NOT the customers, just the data points they harvest and sell! Here is the contact I was given after I'd served papers: Katress [pronounced "ka-TREES"] McBride at (678) 795-7962. She is a cordial self-described African-American at the Atlanta headquarters, whose mission seems to be sweet-talking people out of law suits. She never ONCE asked me not to give her number out, but it may be blocked from unknown users, I don't know. In that case, you can fax her at 866.785.9425, or call the phone number on Fed Ex pkg, (404) 885-8696, and say -- like you're a busy person with important business -- "I'd like to speak to Ms. McBride, please." Tell her you're thinking of going to small claims because you have no other options -- could she help you? She'll pretend not to know how on earth things could have gotten so screwed up, but she will fix things after a few tries. (Keep at it until everything is perfect.) BY LAW EQUIFAX MUST THEN FORWARD ALL CORRECTIONS TO THE OTHER BUREAUS. Hope this helps!!
