Credit Charge Off with Wells Fargo?*

Should I worry about not paying the balance due on a charge off, if the balance is around $2,000? Will Wells Fargo come after me? The account was sent to (or bought by) a third party, who has been calling and warning me that if I don't willingly pay, Wells Fargo will just "take" the money anyway. I have checked my credit report and the account still shows Wells Fargo and has been is in Charge off status for over 2 years. I have made several payments to a 3rd party collection agency, and the balance is around $2,400. If the debt was sold, why does my credit report still show the account with Wells? I don't have a bank account with them, but what can happen if I refuse to pay the rest of the balance on the charge off? Thanks,
