19 year old cell phone, credit history?*

Hey, I'm 19 and I think I want to get my own cell phone plan because I'm on my families which they want me to pay partially for anyway (because I'm making some money now). I know the phone companies look at your credit history. Well, I don't have one. I have a debit card/checks but never have had a credit card/don't plan on getting one. Will they just see I don't have one and approve me, or deny me because i don't?

Answers:

1) Just apply I did before I had any credit and got in very easily

2) You may get approved but You'll probably have to put a security amount down (so they know they are guarenteed something) because of your lack of credit. Thats what most cell phone companies do at least.

3) They will probably approve you but you may need to pay a deposit. You should stay on your families plan though you will save a ton of money that way.

4) Possibly, but chances are they really wont place too much emphasis on that. Try it out if they decline you just get a prepaid phone.

5) They won't deny you because you don't have any credit history. Everyone has to start some where right or they'll never be granted any credit.

6) You might have to put down a security deposit. In the mean time go to a department store like Macy's or Sears and get a store card (they're the easiest to get) and establish credit history.

7) get yourself a credit card like capital one with a $300 limit and manage it responsbily for 6 months and you will get a score and get a phone in your name. You can also ask your parents to put you as an authorized user on their cards however piggybacking on someone's good credit is going to away away soon. I know Experian has already stopped it. equifax and transunion will follow next.

8) apply for it
