Can credit unions issue mortgages outside of its membership area?*
I am in a credit union where I live now, but will be moving to a new house outside of its membership area.
Answers:
1) You must be a member of a credit union in order to benefit from the offerings. Credit unions have open, free memberships, so it's not difficult to join. Credit unions are run by the members for the benefit of the members, that's why you become a part of it--so that you have a vested interest.
2) A credit union membership is anywhere a member resides. I live in FL, my CU is in MA. They keep requesting that I borrow money for any purpose.
