Where can i got to cash my check?*

Im gonna get my first check tuesday and i dont have a bank account where should i go? and How much will this place charge for cashing my check?

Answers:

1) If you're going to be making a steady flow of money, then why not make a bank account?

2) Many banks and grocery customer service centers will cash payroll checks for a fee; every location charges different fees to do so though. Probably 1-2% with a minimum charge of $5-$10 or so is normal, from what I've seen. Some places do gouge and charge significantly more. Read the details before committing. Why not get a bank account? There's quite a lot of free accounts available, and some even pay YOU interest, on top of letting you not have to pay check-cashing fees. Plus, many businesses offer direct deposit to their employees, saving you the gas spent to go deposit your check, too.

3) I would first recommend opening a free checking or savings account. Most of the big banks offer free checking and can be opened with a small deposit amount. You can also try going to a check cashing place or even a grocery store which may charge a percentage. Your best option is to look at the check that you have received. There should be a name of a bank typed on it. This is the bank on which the check is drawn. This means that the company or person that gave you the check has an account at that bank. For FREE you can to any branch of that bank and cash the check. You have to go into the lobby (not the drive through) since you are not technically a customer. Make sure you have your identification with you (and they will most likely take your thumb print on the check). They will be able to look up this account and then they will cash the check right there for you. Good luck...and go open your own account! You're ready for it!
