how fast can I get a unsecured credit card after filing for bankruptcy?*
Answers:
1) These days? Not very. Unless you want to pay large "application fees" to unscrupulous companies who may or may not approve you anyway.
2) As soon as your BK is discharged you will be hit with tons of offers for credit cards. However, the ones that are unsecured are going to have outrageous fees. There are some banks that will give you a $250-$300 unsecured credit line. But to just get the card they charge you almost $200 in fees, then a monthly fee on top of that(anywhere from $4-$11 a month). Unlike a secured card where you can get the money back after a while of good history, with the fees that money is gone. So you would be better off saving up some money for a couple of months and then apply for a secured major credit card.
3) REAL fast.....credit card companies LOVE to issue new cards for people just out of BK....because they know that they can't file again for eight more years. If I were you I'd honestly stay away from unsecured cards for at least 3-4 years. Go with secured cards instead so you'll never be in a place where you can default.
4) As soon as you learn your lesson: Too much debt causes bankruptcy. Getting a credit card after a bankruptcy is as if you burned down your house, moved into an apartment, and the first thing you do is go look for a book of matches.
