Collection agency or scam?*
A number showed up on my caller id at 9:30 pm last night. I never answered it because I always google weird numbers first, since there are so many scammers phoning my house. The number is 877-503-2115. When I googled it, people say it's a collection agency and other people say it's scam to get your personal info. I might owe somebody something so I don't know what to say if I answer it, and 9:30 pm...isn't there some law that collection agencies can only phone at certain times and you have to receive a letter from them first? I haven't received a letter from anybody. What should I say when I answer it, because I don't want them to keep phoning at all hours.
Answers:
1) 9 pm last call
2) www.daplus You can look up anyone by typing thier phone number in. I tried a number that I know who has, it came up with thier name. I hate all these scammers & spammers too. They may give you a number or email address that doesn't exist.
3) Yes this is an illegal practice under the FDCPA as per the following: 15 U.S.C. § 1692c. Communication in connection with debt collection (a) Communication with the consumer generally Without the prior consent of the consumer given directly to the debt collector or the express permission of a court of competent jurisdiction, a debt collector may not communicate with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt-- (1) at any unusual time or place or a time or place known or which should be known to be inconvenient to the consumer. In the absence of knowledge of circumstances to the contrary, a debt collector shall assume that the convenient time for communicating with a consumer is after 8 o'clock antemeridian and before 9 o'clock postmeridian, local time at the consumer's location; So next time they call, either ignore them (but this won't stop them) or answer and cite the above to them. Once they know you know the rules of the game, they don't want to play anymore. Hope this aswers your question LEGAL DISCLAIMER: The advice contained herein is for informational purposes only. 4) I simply put that # into Google and got back websites complaining about exactly what you are complaining about. It does appear to be a collection agency however it is based in Canada. Although they have laws about when a CA can and cannot call they are apparently notorious for ignoring them. Sounds like a sleazy company just throwing lines in the water to catch a sucker.
