will I be able to build credit if my husband adds me to his card?*

I recently discovered through trying to get a credit card of my own, i don't have enough established credit. Even kohl's told me no,lol. Which at 26 might be surprising to some, but I never had any loans, etc. to build from. I thought I could build enough credit just by paying all my utilities on time. Regardless, now the husband wants to get a card in his name and put that i can have my own card with my name on it as well. Will this effect him getting approved because of my credit status? And also, can I build credit if this is a credit card account that has been approved just by his credit and not mine? Thank you all in advance for your help:) Thank you for the responses. I'd like to add that not having a card isn't an option right now due to cercumstances and i'd like to have credit on my own, not just rely on my husbands. I don't think that is wise.

Answers:

1) If the credit card is a joint account, it will show on both credit files. If paid properly, it will improve your credit score. If he just adds you as an authorized user, it will still show up on your credit file. However, it won't help your score. Credit bureaus are phasing out using authorized user accounts in credit score calculations.

2) That will not affect his credit but I am not sure that will help yours either. You might consider getting a low limit secured credit card. Your bank usually can issue you one if you have banked with them for a while and have not written any bad checks. 3) Piggy backing is no longer legal. If you want it to help your credit you need to apply for joint credit.

4) Sorry, but being on your husband's account does nothing for your own credit rating. Try getting a prepaid credit card first, and work your way up from there.

5) buy domain- http://domainforsell.info/

6) Do NOT get a credit card. You do not need to "build" your credit. Debt is killing the American family. You have survived 26 years without debt, do not start now. You will only be throwing away your family's financial future if you do. Pay cash for everything. You will be happier and wealthy in the future if you do this and save.

7) The best was is get a small loan, under your name only for 24 months and pay it back in 12.
