How can you tell if a Visa / Credit card is still active?*

Im going through an old purse and I have 2 visa credit cards how can I tell if they are still usable? Exp. dates are still good.

2) Call them, or if you are brave, try to use it

3) Call the credit card companies or try making a purchase online. You could try making a purchase at an actual store, but it'd be kinda embarrassing if it came back declined.

4) Is there any reason that you doubt they're still active? Did you request that they be closed? Had your shopping habits change suspiciously the last time you used them? Do they have annual membership fees which you did not pay? Did they have a balance that you stopped paying? The best way to find out is to call the credit card company to see if the account is still active. In college, I had applied for alot of credit cards just to receive the free gifts that they would hand out. A few years later, I found a credit card. I called the credit card company, and found that the account was still active, even though I never used it.
