Answers:

1) You would have been better off negotiating a pay for delete agreement BEFORE you paid everything off.

2) If you paid accounts that were with collection agencies and you paid the collection agency itself, you will likely have a very hard time getting them to remove it from your credit report. Because the system these days is more interested in punishing consumers than getting paid, I encourage the people I have worked with not to pay collection agencies unless you have a written agreement signed by you and the agency stating that in return for payment, the account would be deleted permanently and never to appear again. Once you have paid them, there is nothing in it for them to do anything to help you out. They got their money. And they will argue that regardless of whether you paid them or not, they accurately reported your payment history and that you had a collection account that was paid. Once your creditor is paid, you have nothing to use as leverage or as an incentive to get something from them. Unfortunately, you will likely find it very difficult to get paid accounts that were delinquent to come off your credit file. While the information will remain for seven years on your credit file, the older the information becomes, the less damage it will cause to your credit score. You can also help lessen the negative impact by having positive accounts in good standing on your credit file. The more accounts you have in good standing and the older those accounts become, the less damage aged negative information will do to your score. Never be late on any of your accounts and keep your balances at less than 20% of your credit limit. You'll be amazed how quickly the bad stuff will have less and less impact.
