Loan Underwriter with Wells Fargo?*
I received a job offer with Wells based on passing background check and have a 5th degree assault and 4th degree burglary (in my state 4th degree burglary is not a breach of trust or crime of dishonesty) on my record from 14 yrs. ago. Stupid college days :) Have worked at another financial institution for 8 years and was laid off. Have tried to have charges exponged but wont happen. If on the background form they only asked for the past 10 years of addresses and such am I in the clear?!? Even if it comes up will I get the job still?!? If you are hiring manager or HR Professional please help!!!!!
I forgot to mention I have a clearance letter from the FDIC stating my past crimes are not crimes of dishonesty or breach of trust.
The assault is a misdemeanor and the burglary is a gross misdemeanor not felonies, already went through the hiring process I already have a start date and have filled out all the neccesary hiring paperwork.

1) i wouldn't worry too much about it! i got a loan from wells fargo and they cheated me out of $14,000 dollars by telling me one thing and then just before signing give me something else!! they say i can pay at the local branch office 30 miles away on my contract in writing and now i have to send it to las vegas 1200 miles and 3 states away!! they say i can pay early and now want direct withdrawal from my checking account to keep me there all 30 years!! now i am being taken care of by the bank in iowa so if i have any questions i have to go to iowa to get answers?? this was done by the manager himself ?? sounds like they are all dishonest to me???
2) Are your convictions felonies? That would be the big issue I would think. Your criminal record does not "drop off" convictions after a certain time like your credit history.....they're there for good unless you can get them expunged (and that just means that MOST people can't see them). I would keep the letter from the FDIC close at hand. Since your employer is going to find out about these issues anyhow when they do the background check, you need to be up front with them and show them the letter during the hiring interview. If you want to see what is going to turn up on your criminal records check, you can pay this firm a fee and they will show you your national criminal record. Many companies use them (as ours does) to process background/credit checks. https://www.choicetrust.com/servlet/com.kx.cs.servlets.CsServlet?channel=home&product=pesc&subproduct=default
