How does this Discover gift card work?*
My aunt gave me a discover gift card from esteempass.com and it only has twenty-five dollars inside. She told me I could buy whatever I want with this card and that it's already activated. Because I don't have enough time to drive around and shop, I shopped online. But it won't work when I submit the credit card number and the three digit security code. It would either tell me that I have to use another form of payment, it's invalid or the bank information is not the same. I thought it would be easier since it's just a gift card with only 25 dollars and nothing more. I don't get what's the problem. Is the card not activated? For some of the shops, there's no bank information kind of thing and all i had to put in was the security number and the card number. Please help me. So confused.
Answers:
1) Discover gift cards have to be used at locations where discover is accepted and they accept the gift cards also. The gift cards aren't always treated the same as a prepaid credit card, some places will not process gift cards because they aren't registered as credit cards by Discover even though Discover will honor them as such when they are processed.
2) Most gift cards can not be used on line. You have to use them at a store that accepts the Discover Card.
3) Double check to make sure it's activated. If it still doesn't work, it could be the address verification service. When you buy something, enter your aunt's address as the billing address. If it still doesn't work, read the FAQ, then call Discover and/or the merchant.
